Everyone heard of Olympics, but have you heard of the Special Olympics?
Special Olympics, is an international organization that changes lives by encouraging and empowering people with intellectual disabilities, promoting acceptance for all, and fostering communities of understanding and respect worldwide.
Special Olympics adapts Olympic type sports to enable people with intellectual disabilities from as young as two years old and of all ability levels (75 IQ to very low IQ levels) to participate Paralympics, on the other hand is dedicated to high performance sports for physically and mentally disabled athletes who fulfil performance qualifying standards to participate. Special Olympics and Paralympics are two separate organizations that are both recognized by the International Olympic Committee but have different approaches to sports.

Special Olympics Unified Sports® is an inclusive sports programme that combines an equal number of athletes (with intellectual disability) and partners (those without intellectual disability) in teams for training and competition. Athletes and partners of similar age and abilities are placed on the same team to ensure a level playing field between them.
